4,309 villages declared drought-hit

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has declared 4,309 villages in 12 districts drought-affected and decided to launch relief works there from January 11, besides putting off recovery of revenue and converting the short-term loans availed by farmers to medium term.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced the decision at the end of a Collectors’ conference here on Tuesday evening, while noting that the kharif crops in these villages had either been damaged by more than 50 per cent or could not grow due to non-availability of irrigation waters or low rainfall during monsoon last year.
