Mons Joseph meets Baalu in New Delhi State told to forward proposals to Centre NEW DELHI: Kerala Public Works Minister Mons Joseph called on Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu here on Wednesday and discussed the status of implementation of Central sector road projects in the State. Mr. Joseph requested Mr. Baalu to four-lane NH 213 (Palakkad-Kozhikode) in view of the increased traffic on the highway. Considering the request, Mr. Baalu directed officials of the Ministry to undertake a feasibility study and preparation of a detailed project report for the highway. Mr. Joseph also requested Mr. Baalu to include NH 49 (Kochi-Dhanushkodi), NH 220 (Kollam-Theni) and NH 212 (Kozhikode-Kollegal) under Phase IV of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). Mr. Baalu agreed to consider inclusion of NH 49 and NH 220 for development to two-lane with paved shoulders under Phase IV of the NHDP. NH 212 would be developed under the National Highways (Original Works) programme of the Ministry in a phased manner. Besides these, the Minister also requested for construction of flyover to decongest Kochi city and for construction of a Coastal Highway linking Kochi with NH 17 (Thalappadi-Edappally) under Phase VII of the NHDP. Mr. Baalu has asked him to forward the relevant proposals for consideration of the Union government.
