One killed in group clashes

NAGAPATTINAM: Tension prevailed at Thalanayar near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday following clash between two groups belonging to CPI and AIADMK.

A group led by Muthu (58) belonging to AIADMK stabbed Selvaraj (43) of CPI in the early hours of Wednesday. Selvaraj who sustained bleeding injuries was brought to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, where he died.

Following this, a group of Selvaraj supporters stabbed Muthu and he was also brought to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital and admitted. Nagaraj, Pakkirisamy and Madhavan, injured in the clash were admitted to Thiruthuraipoondi Government Hospital. Police pickets were posted at Thalanayar.
