The Indian Air Force squadron, engaged in flood relief work in Ceylon, on January 8 concluded their mission with a demonstration of parachute jumping at the Race Course in the heart of Colombo. Over 200,000 spectators watched the display, including the Ceylon Prime Minister, Mr. Solomon Bandaranaike, who was celebrating his 59th birthday. The IAF was the first foreign relief mission to arrive in Colombo on December 28, in response to the Ceylon Prime Minister’s call for help to meet the tide of floods and during its operations helped in urgent reconstruction work, carried passengers to safety and gave medical assistance to the food-stricken victims.
