PANAJI: Goa Speaker Pratapsinh Rane, through an interim order on Wednesday, restored all rights of the two MLAs of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), a regional outfit. The former Minister Ramkrishna Dhavlikar and his brother Dipak Dhavlikar were restrained from voting in the Assembly in July last year after the Congress sought their disqualification for withdrawing support from the party-led government ahead of a crucial floor test. The coalition government eventually survived the crisis. By another order, the Speaker also restored the rights of the ruling Congress MLA Victoria Fernandes who was also part of the unsuccessful toppling bid. The Speaker permitted the lone woman MLA to withdraw her resignation, apparently given in a huff. Ms. Fernandes, who had made common cause with the Opposition after she failed to get a Ministerial berth, has since returned. With this decision the legislative strength of the ruling Congress is restored to 17.
