Government offices picketed
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL: Volunteers of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) picketed Government offices in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, on Tuesday in protest against a Cabinet decision to allow a private sector hydel project in the State.
Police beefed up security measures but made no arrests. The KSU volunteers charged Chief Minister D.D. Lapang and Power Minister Mukul Sangma with being the architects of the Cabinet decision. A union spokesman said that if the decision was not withdrawn, the students would launch further agitations. They had earlier objected to uranium mining in the State.
