Dhanaraj comes up with a fine spell

Srivilliputtur: Dhanaraj’s five for three helped Government HSS, Umarikadu, Tuticorin defeat CMS HSS, Srivilliputtur and enter the quarterfinals of the all India inter-school boys’ Twenty20 cricket tournament for Anandam Ammal Trophy at Kalasalingam University ground here on Wednesday.

CMS HSS, Srivilliputtur 60 in 14.2 ovres (Dharanraj five for three) lost to Govt. HSS, Umarikadu 61 for six in 13.4 overs.

Lechatelier MHSS, Madurai 145 for eight in 20 overs (Arun 34, Pandy three for 29, Earwaran five for 15) bt Nadar HSS, Watrap 48 in 10.2 overs (Kasi three for 20, Arun three for 15, Ibrahim three for seven).

St. Francis Xavier HSS, Dindigul beat PSC English School, Virudhunagar 25-19, 27-25 for its third win in the five-team group ‘A’ league in the all-India inter-school girls volleyball tournament at Kalasalingam University ground on Wednesday.

An unbeaten 105 by Edwin helped Classic Cricket Club register a 205-run victory over ASKR CC in the Tuticorin DCA first division league at Tuticorin on recently.

First division: Classic CC 323 in 50 overs (Edwin 105 not out, Subash 87, James Raj 52) bt ASKR CC 118 in 27 overs.

Second division: Seconds CC ‘B’ 118 in 33.4 overs lost to Pearl City CC 119 for five in 18 overs.

Third division: SDRC 191 in 35 overs (Praburaj 51) bt Popes CC 109 in 21.2 overs (Saravanan four for 18).

Giriselvam wins

M.G. Giriselvam of Jaycees Matriculation School won the open category title in the Duraisamy Nadar memorial Virudhunagar District chess tournament at Sivakasi recently.

Loyola in final

Loyola College (Chennai) blanked CMS College of Commerce and Science 3-0 to enter the final of the 17th State-level inter-collegiate football tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSG CAS in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

In the title clash, Loyola will take on PSG College of Arts and Science, which scored a solitary goal win over KSR Arts and Science College (Tiruchengode).
