Emphatic victory for ARC ‘B’

MANGALORE: Aloysius Recreation Club ‘B’ (Mangalore) scored an emphatic seven-wicket win over Milagres College (Kallianpur) in a KSCA Mangalore zone first division knock-out fixture played at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday.

The scores:

Milagres College 95 in 32.3 overs (Shravan 39, Punith four for 19) lost to ARC ‘B’ 97 for 3 in 12.5 overs (Neville Pereira 28 not out).

Earlier scores: UCA ‘B’ 221 for 9 in 49 overs (Ashreen 81, Nachiketh 38, Mohideen four for 30) lost to ARC ‘B’ 222 for 8 in 39.4 overs (Santhosh Kamath 103, Vedananda Pai three for 36).

Nihal wins silver

Nihal Manjunath, a product of Derik’s Chess School (DCS), won the under-13 silver in the Asian School chess championship, organised by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, from January 3 to 9 at Kandy.

Nihal scored 6.5 points in nine rounds for the second place. Nihal, a VIII standard student of Lourdes Central School, Mangalore, is the son of Manjunath Shetty and Veena Manjunath.

Tennis tournament

Mangalore University will host the all-India inter-University women’s tennis tournament 2007-08 at the Mangalagangothri campus near Mangalore starting from Friday.

Teams from Delhi, Punjab, BHU, Uttaranchal, Bangalore, Osmania and Bombay University, apart from and the host will vie for honours in the three-day event.
