Sex workers remanded

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A city court here on Wednesday remanded 24 alleged pimps and 51 victims of immoral trafficking, who were arrested and rescued in a joint raid by the Andhra Pradesh and the Delhi police at brothels on Swami Shraddhanand Marg on Tuesday, to five-day transit remand.

The court gave the order after the FIRs and other related documents were translated from Telugu to English. The A.P. police have been asked to produce the accused and the victims in the court there on January 14. On their part, the accused had argued on Tuesday that the complaint — by a woman who was allegedly forced into flesh trade — which had led to the raid by the police teams, had mentioned only six persons as alleged pimps and not 24.
