Bihar lawyers stay away from courts

K. Balchand

PATNA: Lawyers across the State on Wednesday stayed away from courts, tribunals and judicial forums protesting against the murder of their colleague last month in Jehanabad district.

The call by the Bihar Bar Council affected work, including the Patna High Court. The lawyers are protesting against the failure of the State government in providing security to its own pleaders. The government has failed to check the recurrence of such dastardly incidents which had risen in recent times.

The lawyers were upset that the government had not been able to arrest the killers of Additional Public Prosecutor Deendayal Yadav in Jehanabad on December 24. They demanded a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family.
