Woman ends life after killing daughter

BANGALORE: A woman, working in an IT company in Pune, strangled her two-year-old daughter and later committed suicide at her sister’s residence in J.P. Nagar police station limits here on Tuesday.

The police said Nancy Samuel (34), who came to Bangalore from Pune on Sunday, hanged herself from a ceiling fan with a duppatta after killing her daughter Krithi (2). The incident took place between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. Nancy was living at her sister Martha’s house in 2nd Phase, J.P. Nagar. Nancy’s sister, Martha and her husband Sujay, both software engineers, returned home around 7.30 p.m.

When they did not find Nancy and Krithi on the ground floor of the house, they went to the first floor looking for the two.

After finding that Nancy had locked herself in a bedroom, Sujay peeped through a window and noticed her body hanging from the ceiling and he informed the police.

Nancy’s husband Samuel Chandra works as a general manager of a courier company in Mumbai.

The couple earlier lived in Bangalore for a few years, the police said.

Woman murdered

A 29-year-old woman died after her husband allegedly doused her with kerosene and set her on fire at their house in Prakashnagar in Rajajinagar police station limits.

The police said Shantha, a mother of two, who had sustained 90 per cent burns after her husband Sreenivasa immolated her around 1.30 p.m. on Tuesday, died at the Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday.

Bludgeoned

A man, aged around 35, suspected to be a painter, was found murdered on a vacant plot in Yeshwanthapur police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said the assailants had smashed the head of the man with a boulder. Passers-by noticed the body on the vacant plot on 1st Main, B.K. Nagar and informed the police.

Killed in accident

A factory employee was killed after a lorry ran over him on National Highway 4, near T. Dasarahalli tank junction, around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Bhavanishankar Gowda (42), a native of Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district. He was working as a fitter in a factory in Peenya, the police said. The Peenya traffic police, who have registered a case, said they were on the lookout for the lorry that sped away after the accident.

Vehicles recovered

The Chickpet police have arrested Samiullah (49) of Kadugondanahalli on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from him three scooters and a motorcycle, all estimated at Rs. 1.50 lakh.

Using fake keys, the accused had stolen vehicles from Chickpet and J.P. Nagar police station limits, the police said.
