Panel to probe cracks on track

Tuni (East Godavari): A high-level committee of the Railway Engineering Department will inquiry into the broken axel of a goods wagon which in turn caused 38 cracks to the railway track between Anakapalli and Samalkot on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Additional Divisional Railway Manager M. Sarjuna Rao said that this was the rare case where the axel broke the track at so many places. He said that no sound was heard either by the gangmen or by anyone at the small stations between Anakapalli and Samalkot. Nobody, including the driver of the particular goods train, had noticed the fault. He said that the committee would inquiry into the mechanical fault, human fault-checking of all wheels and accessories at the time of leaving the station and about the damage part.

Mr. Sarjuna Rao also said that as the latest technology was available with them, they had taken up the repair works on a war-footing and restored the line within 24 hours. However, he said that it would take another 48 hours to restore normalcy for all passenger trains. As of now, all trains were running with a minimum speed of 30 kmph in this section.

Railway Officials Kishore Babu, Subba Rao and others visited the spot along with ADRM.
