Elections

BIDAR: President of Bidar district unit of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association Basavraj Bharshetty lost to R. Saraha by one vote in the elections held on Thursday. Mr. Bharshetty secured 82 votes while Mr. Saraha polled 83. However, Mr. Bharshetty’s panel scured 46 of the 60 seats in the election. According to returning officer Mohammed Sharief, polling was about 85 per cent. He said that elections were to elect 26 members to the association from 14 government departments. Thirty-three candidates have been elected unopposed. — Staff Correspondent
