PANAJI: A brief session of the State Assembly began on a discordant note on Thursday with the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staging a walkout amidst noisy protests as soon as Governor S.C. Jamir began his address. Earlier, Speaker Pratapsinh Rane and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat ceremoniously welcomed the Governor to the House. As soon as the Governor began his address, the leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar tried to intervene pointing out that the Government was yet to reply to the motion of thanks over the Governor’s last address to the House. He said in that context the address by the Governor on the first day of the session was futile and meaningless. All the BJP MLAs got up holding placards and chanting slogans of “Jamir go back.” As the Governor continued his speech, the BJP MLAs under Mr. Parrikar’s leadership walked out. The BJP had accused the Governor of not being impartial and of misusing security for political purposes in Nagaland. The party had declared that it would “target the Governor ” during the session.
