PUDUCHERRY: History-sheeter Gunasekaran alias Vellai Guna surrendered before the II Additional District and Session Judge A.K. Annamalai on Thursday. He surrendered in connection with a case in which he and his associates were convicted for the murder of Sundal Shanmugam in 1997. The then II Additional District Judge in Puducherry had sentenced Guna and three others to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment under Section 304 (ii) of Indian Penal Code. The accused then appealed to the Madras High Court, which confirmed the lower court’s order. However, Guna jumped bail and a non-bailable warrant was issued by the trial court, for which he surrendered on Thursday. He was later taken by the police to be lodged in the Central Prison in Puducherry. Guna is also wanted in a couple of other cases.
