“Instil respect for human rights in students”

VELLORE: The Additional Director General of Police and Director of Investigation, Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission, R. Natraj, has called upon educational institutions to instil in the students respect for human rights.

Delivering the keynote address at the University Grants Commission-sponsored workshop on human rights organised by the Voorhees College here on Wednesday, Mr. Natraj said the college students should create awareness of human rights among the illiterate and the poor, the need to protect human rights and to guard themselves against violation of human rights.

The State should provide equal rights to all sections of society, improving quality of life, Mr. Natraj said. He also stressed on the five basic human rights, namely the right to food, security, housing, health and custodial justice.
