Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court, on Thursday, directed the Ombudsman for Travancore and Cochin Devaswom Boards to conduct a detailed study and make suggestions on improving the use of accommodation facilities, including guest houses owned by the Travancore Devawom Board, and providing them to devotees. The Bench, comprising Justices P.R. Raman and V.K. Mohanan, issued the directive while considering a report of the Sabarimala Special Commissioner. The court prima facie felt that allotment of rooms was not based on any rules and there were complaints against the occupation of rooms. Rule upheldA Bench, comprising Justices K. Balakrishnan Nair and P.N. Ravindran, dismissed a challenge against Section 90(7) (a) of Part III of the Kerala Service Rules. It stipulates that a twice-married person is not entitled to family pension on account of the death of his or her second spouse when the first wife or husband is alive. The court upheld the rule while dismissing an appeal filed by V. Moidu, retired headmaster of a lower primary school. Rationalist’s pleaA Bench adjourned hearing on a writ petition filed by Kerala Yukthivadi Sanghom president U. Kalanathan, seeking a direction to the State government to grant permission to him and his team to visit Ponnambalamedu on Sabarimala on Makarajyothi day.
