STOCK TAKING: Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan reviewing the performance of chemistry teachers in Tiruchi on Wednesday. TIRUCHI: As part of the efforts to increase the district’s pass percentage of Plus Two results this year, Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan reviewed the individual performances of chemistry and mathematics teachers of 134 higher secondary schools, on Wednesday. At a meeting convened at Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Puthur, he compared each school’s last year results in individual subjects with that of the half-yearly examinations this year. Explaining the expectations of the department and the procedure to be followed henceforth, Mr. Swaminathan emphasised on the need for according maximum focus on slow learners. Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu was keen on preventing single-subject failures, he told the teachers. Commending the chemistry teachers for achieving 98 per cent results last year, he exuded hope that cent per cent overall results was a possibility this year. The meeting also served as a forum for successful teachers to share their approaches to secure cent percent results. The gathering of teachers learnt of those portions that must be accorded maximum priority while dealing with slow-learners. Welcoming suggestions for bettering the performance, the CEO said the individual performances of teachers in 39 subjects would be completed over the next few days. For the first time, a performance review was being undertaken at the level of PG teachers. ‘Postpone examination’In the feedback session, PG teachers called for postponement of the Plus Two public examinations, both theory and practicals, by a couple of weeks, in the absence of the entrance examination. The CEO assured to convey their suggestion to the Directorate of School Education and Directorate of Government Examinations.
