CAPCO to educate consumers

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Chairman of the Confederation of A.P. Consumers Organisation (CAPCO) V. Gowri Sankar has said that efforts are on to create awareness among consumers on their rights by encouraging consumer clubs in schools and degree colleges and also by opening consumer information centres in mandals and districts.

At a press conference on Thursday, he regretted that due to lack of awareness, consumers were being cheated by traders and service organisations. He said that majority of consumers were unwilling to approach consumer courts for fear of complicated procedures and abnormal delay in settlement of cases.

He asked the government to drop the proposal to collect nominal fee for filing petitions in consumer courts.
