Udupi: Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math said on Thursday that he had sent a draft copy of the proposed constitution for Ashta Maths in Udupi to Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math. (It may be recalled that the Puttige seer and the Pejawar seer had spoken of a need for a constitution after a major controversy erupted over the issue of Puttige seer worshipping Lord Krishna at the Sri Krishna Temple during his Paryaya, which begins on January 18.) Seven seers of the Ashta Maths, including the Pejawar seer, had said that they wanted the Puttige seer to desist from worshipping Lord Krishna, as he had visited foreign countries which, they say, is banned by religious texts. Speaking to presspersons here, Vishvesha Tirtha said that in his draft copy, he had made it clear that neither the present nor the future seers visiting foreign countries should worship Lord Krishna. He is yet to get a response from the Puttige seer on the draft copy. Scholars would meet in Udupi to discuss the issue on January 11. If necessary, scholars from Puttige Math would be called for the meeting. He said nearly 15 “Madhwapeethadeeshas” (seers following the Dwaita tradition), including Satyatma Tirtha Swamiji of Uttaradi Math, would be participating in the Sri Krishna Devotees’ Convention organised in Udupi on January 13, to discuss the issue of retaining the tradition of worshipping Lord Krishna. Hindu organisations which were earlier pressuring him to accept the stand of Puttige seer, have now agreed to remain neutral on the issue. The Pejawar seer said, “I have no ego clash with the Puttige seer. . I want the majority opinion of Ashta Maths to prevail, whether it goes in my favour or not.”
