This Day That Age
(Some of the points made by Yehudi Menuhin, one of the world’s greatest violinists, who is President of the Asian Music Circle, during a recent interview in Paris are reproduced below): The Asian Music Circle was organised by a few Indian people, notably Mr. Angadi, in London, who knew of my trip to India and my interest in Indian music and in the music of other countries in the East. They felt this great need of the people in London and in the West to become acquainted with the music and dance of the East and asked me if I could be the President in New York of this organisation and lend not only my name but also advice and help to further the project. The Asian Music Circle has proved to be an institution which responded to a general need. I had not anticipated a response as it actually evoked which proves that the people of England and the people of the West in general, are ready and eager for any opportunity to become acquainted with what is happening on the other side of the globe. I feel that the Asian Music Circle is a natural response to human curiosity, about people living beyond our reach, their ways of life, music, literature, etc.
