KOLKATA: In a bid to clear certain misgivings of some constituents of the ruling Left Front on various issues related to the drive towards greater industrialisation in West Bengal, leaders of the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) met members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) here on Thursday. The AIFB State secretary, Ashok Ghosh, said later that “primary talks” were held with the CPI(M)’s State leadership and “documents” containing their respective views on the issues at hand would be exchanged. The AIFB leaders have been expressing their reservations over some of the policies being pursued by the State Government and have shared their discontent with their counterparts in the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and the CPI. At a meeting between leaders of these three parties earlier this week it was resolved that while a sustained effort would be made to preserve and strengthen unity within the Left Front, decisions regarding aspects of governance would have to be taken collectively rather than “unilaterally.” The AIFB has already announced its decision to contest the panchayat elections independently.
