NEW DELHI: An ordinance will be promulgated to amend the Railways Act to expedite land acquisition for various special projects, pending completion. Announcing the Cabinet decision on Thursday, Union Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said all requirements under the proposed rehabilitation and resettlement legislation and other laws would be met fully. Official sources said about Rs. 50,000 crore worth of railway projects were pending completion because of problems in land acquisition. MSP increasedThe Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an increase of Rs. 40 a quintal in the minimum support price for fair average quality of both milling and ball copra for the 2008 season. With this, the MSP for milling copra would be Rs. 3,660 and for ball copra, Rs. 3,910. The setting up of a central capacity building management cell for coordination and implementation of the National e-Governance plan was also approved. The cell will work under an empowered committee headed by the Information Technology Secretary.
