KATHMANDU: Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has expanded his Cabinet to 31 members, adding seven Ministers, one of whom is his daughter Sujata Koirala. Mr. Koirala inducted four Ministers from his party, Nepali Congress, one from the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), and two from Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists). Sujata Koirala has been appointed Minister without Portfolio and will work in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Nepali Congress leader Farmullah Mansoor will take charge of the Ministry of Science and Technology, which fell vacant after Mahanta Thakur resigned from the post a month ago to launch his own political party, Tarai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party. The Prime Minister appointed the two NC leaders, Ram Kumar Chaudhary and Deena Aryal, as State Ministers for Home Affairs and Water Resources respectively. The UML’s leader, Nagendra Chaudhary, has been appointed State Minister for Agriculture and his party colleague Rameshwor Yadhav, who is now State Minister for General Administration, was promoted to the Cabinet rank. Mr. Koirala also inducted two Maoist leaders, Padam Rai and Nabin B.K., as State Ministers for Local Development and Women, Children and Social Welfare. Meanwhile, Maoist leaders have flayed the Prime Minster for opposing the merger of the former guerillas with the national army, saying the integration of the two forces was part of the peace deal in the country.
