NALCO (Orissa) posts maiden title triumph

Bharuch: Six comparatively young players from NALCO (Orissa) created history in Indian bridge by wnning the board-a-match event for the Mohan Sicka Trophy in the 49th National bridge championship here.
The team, comprising A. Rout, J. Pratihari, D.N. Lenka, B.M. Behera, I. Khan and S.K. Pradhan, scored 222 points, full two boards ahead of the second-placed Pankaj Kapadia’s team (Pankaj Kapadia, Ajit Chakradeo, Jagdish Biswas, Sadhan Ghosh, Sanat Kumar Saha and Indranil Chakraborty), who finished with 210 points.
Railways ‘A’ team, who put up a lacklustre performance in the Ruia Trophy, made partial amends by sharing the third spot with Malani (208 each).
The top eight in a field of 32 finalists in pairs event: 1. A.K. Anklesaria & U. Gupta (321), 2. J.N. Roy & S. Majumder (306), 3. A.N. Banerjee & S. Mukherjee (296), 4. A. Daga & S. Saha (293), 5. S. Ray & P. Roy (281), 6. Kiran Nadar & B. Satyanarayana (279), 7. D. Poddar & K. Krishnakumar (278), 8. S. Choksi & R. Dalal (273).
