Lucky loser Khate wins title

NEW DELHI: Lucky loser Vlasier Khate emerged champion as he beat second-seeded Sushanta Mohanty 6-1, 6-1 in the boys’ final of the Ram Lal memorial AITA Talent series junior tennis tournament at the Vasant Kunj Sports Complex here on Thursday. Khate had lost in the final round of the qualifying event, but the lad from Nagaland went on to win the title in style, dropping just nine games in five rounds. In the girls’ section, the top-seeded Nehal Sahni raced to victory over fourth-seeded Tahira Bhatti. The secretary of the Vasant Kunj Sports Complex, Lt. Col. N. S. Yadav, presented the prizes.

The results (finals): Boys: U-14: Vlasier Khate bt Sushanta Mohanty 6-1, 6-1.

Girls: U-14: Nehal Sahni bt Tahira Bhatti 6-2, 6-3.
