Harish shines

Coimbatore: A splendid six-wicket haul by off-spinner N. Harish (six for 31) and a well-compiled 66 by Yogeshwaran enabled host Coimbatore take a 26-run first innings lead over Ramanathapuram in a crucial quarterfinal clash of the TNCA under-17 inter-district cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds here on Thursday.

Electing to bat, the visitor, thanks largely to the efforts of K. Gnanapragasamoorthy (79), managed to post 145 in 49.3 overs.

In reply, the host played cautiously to finish the opening day of the two-day match at 171 for five in 38 overs.

The scores (quarterfinals): At Coimbatore: Ramanathapuram 145 in 49.3 overs (K. Gnanapragasamoorthy 79, N. Harish six for 31, N. Nithish Kumar Sahani three for 55) vs. Coimbatore 171 for five in 38 overs (Yogeshwaran 66).

At Salem: Salem 260 in 82.4 overs (R. Pradeep Kumar 57, Isaac Raj 43, P. Arun Balaji 38, Nirmal Kumar five for 59) vs. Tiruchi 80 for two in 18 overs (Prithiviraj 41 not out).
