Chennai Loyola retains trophy

Coimbatore: Favourite Loyola College (Chennai) scored a facile 3-0 win over host PSG College of Arts and Science and emerged champion in the 17th State-level inter-collegiate football tournament at the PSG CAS grounds here on Thursday.

The results: Final: Loyola (Chennai) 3 (Ilamurugan 23, R. Siva 47, Lal Zarzoa 53) bt PSG CAS 0.

Soya Sakthi prevails

Soya Sakthi (Coimbatore) maintained a clean super league slate to lift the title in the second State-level invitation ball badminton (Two Senior) tournament for the KNM Baladeep Rolling Trophy at the VOC Park courts recently.

Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai) and TNPL (Karur) finished for the next two places respectively.

The results: Super league: Soya Sakthi (Coimbatore) bt IOB (Chennai) 29-13, 29-21; bt Roots (Chennai) 19-29, 29-29, 29-26; bt TNPL (Karur) 29-26, 29-27; IOB bt Roots 29-15, 29-16; bt TNPL 29-22, 29-14; TNPL bt Roots 29-23, 29-25. Final standings: 1. Soya Sakthi, 2. IOB, 3. TNPL, 4. Roots.

Kovai Marathon

The ‘Aircel’ Kovai Marathon 2008 will be flagged off from the VOC Park grounds on February 3 at 6.30 a.m. Organised by the Coimbatore District Athletic Association, the Coimbatore Corporation and the PWD (Environmental Cell Division), the event is held to spread the message of conserving environment and health.
