Dacoits kill farmer, loot gold worth Rs. 2.50 lakh

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Armed robbers murdered a 28-year-old man, grievously injured his elder brother and looted Rs. 60,000 cash and gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 2.50 lakh from their house in Doddaballapur taluk in Bangalore Rural district on Wednesday night.

The police said the incident took place at the secluded house of Lokesh and his brother Ramesh, both farmers, at Thirumagondanahalli on Sri Ghati Subramanya Road on the outskirts of Doddaballapur. As the annual fair at the Sri Ghati Subramanya temple will begin on Monday, Ramesh was busy painting a petty shop in front of his house on Wednesday night.

Around 10.45 p.m., five men arrived there and attacked him with swords and choppers.

On hearing his screams, his elder brother Lokesh (32), who was sleeping inside the house, rushed out.

The robbers attacked Lokesh too, injuring him on his hands and shoulder.

They gagged Lokesh, his wife Mangala and a seriously injured Ramesh with ropes and locked them inside the house.

The intruders ransacked a cupboard and looted the cash and gold jewellery, most of which was given to Mangala by her parents at the time of her marriage four months ago.

Later, the robbers locked the door from outside and ran away, the police said.

As Ramesh’s condition was critical, he was brought to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore and he died there.
