BANGALORE: The personal staff of the former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president, H.D. Deve Gowda, have expressed shock at the suicide committed by a youth soon after the car he was driving crashed into the official car of Mr. Gowda. Sources in Mr. Gowda’s family told The Hindu that on receipt of the suicide news, Mr. Deve Gowda sent word to the family members to seek a first hand account . Mr. Gowda’s gunman, Bore Gowda who was in the car along with Mr Deve Gowda when the accident occurred, said soon after the accident, the driver of the official car, Sheikh, alighted from the vehicle to ascertain the damage. The traffic police detained the youth and his car and summoned Sheikh to file a complaint. However, the youth and his brother pleaded for a compromise. They reportedly agreed to get the car repaired and offered Rs. 10,000 as an advance for the repair. Mr. Bore Gowda said: “We do not know the reason that drove the youth to commit suicide.”
