Protecting a landmark: A view of Hussainsagar.

HYDERABAD: One might have heard about online games on fishing hosted by major gaming sites. But, imagine using online gaming as a tool to educate people about protecting Hussainsagar Lake, the large water body in the heart of the city.

‘Clean Sagar’, a new game hosted on www.onlinerealgames.com and www.neodelight.com, asks users to remove the litter and waste falling into the lake. The gamer will earn points every time he/she removes the litter while negative marks would be awarded in the event of fishes being affected by the bait.

More interesting is the fact that the game is not developed by some city-based company. Moved by the ‘highly polluted’ state of Hussainsagar, Ulrich Tausend, managing partner of Neodelight, developed the game on a single day to spread awareness on protecting the lake and at the same time, providing entertainment to the users.

Mr. Tausend, who was here in connection with his company’s acquisition by 7Seas Technologies, a city-based gaming company, told The Hindu that he saw several sign boards asking visitors not to throw litter into Hussainsagar when he went around the lake.

And, the idea of developing the game came after he was ‘not allowed to swim’ on the ground that the lake was ‘polluted’.

“We thought of educating the people about protecting such beautiful landmarks in this city and developed ‘Clean Sagar’ as part of it,” he said.
