Government may upgrade cinemas in 185 taluks It is planning to adopt French model BANGALORE: The Government has given in-principle consent for hosting the Bengalooru International Film Festival (Biffes) annually from next year on the lines of the International Film Festival held in Goa. This was announced by the Commissioner of Information K.V.R. Tagore at the valediction of the second edition of Biffes organised by the Suchitra Cultural and Film Academy with support from the State Government here on Thursday. He said the Government was planning to adopt French model, in which the Government itself funded the production of art films, for promoting purposeful cinema. This would be part of the cinema policy being drafted, he said. The Government was ready to join hands with all those concerned in the Kannada cinema industry in taking all award winning films to district and taluks under the Nammaora Cinema launched by a section of major film makers. It would not hesitate to upgrade cinema halls in all the 185 taluks for the purpose. The writer and filmmaker Baragur Ramachandrappa called upon parallel filmmakers to bring a global perspective to native issues. The veteran Kannada film director Siddalingaiah spoke on the life and achievements of the veteran Kannada film producer K.C.N. Gowda, who was felicitated on the occasion. Hindi filmmaker Kiran Shantaram, son of the legendary filmmaker the late V. Shantaram, was the chief guest.
