Heroin seized, man held
Staff Reporter
Coimbatore: The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau–CID of the State Police on Thursday recovered heroin worth over Rs.40 lakh and arrested a Mumbai-based person at the Gandhipuram central bus stand here.
Following information about drug pedlars from other States using Tamil Nadu for marketing and distributing narcotic substances, the police have stepped up vigil against habitual narcotic offenders. On a tip-off, Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Kumaresan and Inspector G. Krishnamurthy arrested Gopal, son of Ramanaicker alias Palanisamy of Mumbai. He had over 400 grams of brown sugar (heroin), valued at over Rs.40 lakh, in his possession.
Gopal, who had taken to drug trading, was arrested by the Mumbai unit of the Narcotic Control Bureau in 1997 for possession of brown sugar and had served eight years of sentence.
A case was registered against him.
