CHANGANASSERY: It was decided at the second round of dialogue between the Nair Service Society (NSS) and the Church leadership held at the Archbishop’s Palace here on Thursday not to attend the talks called by Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to redress their grievances with regard to the revision of the Kerala Educational Rules (KER) as it is “impossible to hold constructive interaction without a concrete basic document.” In a joint statement issued after the conclave, they said that when criticisms were raised against certain issues following the publication of the draft report, the government had said that it had not thought about such issues. The Chief Minister and the Education Minister had said that there were “misgivings.” No report has been submitted further to it. Report awaited“Since it is impossible to make any constructive interaction without a concrete document, it has been decided to wait till the publication of the final report,” said Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, head of the Mar Thoma Church of Malabar, who attended the meeting, while briefing mediapersons. The meeting took serious exception to the approach of casting aspersions on religious and social leaders by those in the government. “On the one hand they extend invitation for talks, but on the other, they cast aspersions and insult on them,” the statement said. The conclave decided to move together in protecting their religious beliefs and customs and practices.
