Rs.75,000 stolen from festival office

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: A robbery which took place at the programme committee office of the State Schools Arts Festival on the Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School campus on Friday morning came as a shock to the organisers.

A bag containing Rs.75,000 in cash was found stolen. The cash was meant to meet the expenses for the Vidyarangam programme scheduled for the day. The bag was with the editor of the Vidyarangam Kala Sahithya Vedi, Usman Chulliyil.

On Friday morning Mr. Chulliyil along with another official of the Vedi reached the festival programme committee office for finalising the Vidyarangam programme. The office was jam-packed with people arriving to make various enquiries. While engaged in talks with an official, he put the bag on a table. But, when he turned to take a file from the bag, he found the bag missing. He raised an alarm following which the volunteers made a thorough search, but in vain.
