Concern over increasing number of road accidents

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: “We are a reputed tourist State, we do not want to turn into a killer State,” Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said in the State Assembly on Friday during the question hour, as he reciprocated the concern raised by the Opposition over the growing number of fatal road accidents in the State in recent years. Mr. Kamat declared his Government’s desire to initiate a series of measures to curb road accidents.

The Government has declared 2008 as the “Road Safety Year”.

He said the Government would come out with a “White Paper” on the road accident scenario in the State over the last five years.
