Three freedom fighters felicitated

BERHAMPUR: Three freedom fighters were honoured at a rally organised in the city on Friday to mark 150 years of the first war of the Indian independence .

A rally by students, professionals, social workers and officials of the city started from the municipal office in the morning. Led by Berhampur MLA R.C.C. Patnaik, the rally moved around the city. It culminated into a public meeting at the Gandhi Park.

Additional District Magistrate Sangram Ray, Municipal Chairperson Sulochana Swain, Sub-Collector Govind Biswal and others were present. Raghunath Mohapatra of Pandia village, Laxminarayan Mishra of Digapahandi and Gopall Chandra Dash of the city were felicitated on the occasion. These three Gandhians of Ganjam district were active in the quit India movement and were jailed several times. Another freedom fighter P. Krishna Murty of Pandia village will be honoured during a cultural programme on Saturday. The freedom fighters expressed concern over deterioration of values among leaders of the present generation.
