It decides to organise an annual lecture programme from this year CUTTACK: After accomplishing the mission of upgrading the status of Ravenshaw College to university, the Ravenshaw Development Trust has now focused its attention to restore the lost glory of the 140-year-old institution. Formed in 1994 with an objective to make the college a centre of excellence, the trust is now working towards improving the academic ambience of the newly-formed university. “The trust will now work more vigorously to make the institution as the fountain-head of knowledge and culture in the country,” said trust chairman A.B. Tripathy here on Friday. Role of facilitatorThe trust was always ready to act as a ‘facilitator’ and assist the State government as well as to the university authorities to make it as the knowledge and ethics bank of the State, he asserted. Speaking to newsmen, members of the trust said that as part of its commitment to improve the academic ambience of the varsity, the trust decided to organise an ‘annual lecture’ programme from this year in which leading academicians of the globe would address and interact with students. “Accordingly, we decided to begin this annual lecture programme inviting Meghnad Jagdish Chandra Desai, the India-born British economist, to deliver a talk on ‘global Governance’ on Saturday,” Mr. Tripathy said. InteractionThe former professor of London School of Economics and a known Labour Party supporter, the 68-year-old economist would also interact with students of the university.
