KOCHI: Three navy personnel were arrested on Thursday evening on the charge of attacking the Harbour Police station. Those arrested were identified as Lt Cdr Rahul Jyoti, 29, from Haryana; Sub Lt Deepak Ullagaddi, 28 and Sub Lt Prasanna Kumar, 22, both from Karnataka. Cases have also been registered against 97 others who could be identified by sight. Those arrested were produced before Judicial First Class Magistrate – I and remanded to judicial custody. They were taken to the sub-jail. The police said that the trouble began when the police objected to the three navy personnel parking a bike obstructing traffic on Sastha Temple Road, near the police station. Even though the navy men were released later, the accused came in motorbikes and stoned the police station, injuring couple of policemen on duty and causing damage to the station and some vehicles parked there. Navy’s versionThe Southern Naval Command said in a press release that the Navy has taken a serious view of the incident and has ordered an investigation into it. “The navy unambiguously upholds the law of the land and those guilty, irrespective of their status, would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Navy Act,” the release said.
