CPI, AIYF activists stage protest against arrests

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: The Two Town police on Friday arrested nine activists of Missamma Gudisevasulu Porata Sangham, CPI and AIYF, when they, along with the poor living in the vicinity tried to obstruct the removal of debris of controversial Missamma building. The poor living on the site staged a protest in front of the police station demanding release of the arrested persons.

The building was demolished last month by a construction company claiming to have purchased about 7.75 acres out of the 32.5 acres land belonging to a Christian missionary society. The activists of Gudisevasula Sangham led by CPI and AIYF activists tried to obstruct the removal of debris by the construction company, when the police intervened and arrested the activists. Large number of poor, members of the families thronged the police station after the arrested activists were brought there.
