‘93 per cent of property offence cases detected in Krishnagiri district’

Krishnagiri: The Krishnagiri district police have detected 93 per cent of the property offence cases reported in the district during 2007.
Out of a total of 363 property offence cases reported, as many as 336 cases were detected by the police, Superintendent of Police P.C. Thenmozhi has said.
Ms. Thenmozhi told reporters on Friday that out of the stolen property worth Rs.1.12 crore during 2007 the police recovered goods worth Rs. 99.48 lakh.
Special teams formed to probe the property offence cases achieved breakthrough in the cases in coordination with the local police.
A total of 65 murder cases were registered last year.
Of them, 63 cases were detected by the police.
The police had also detected 20 robbery cases and 26 burglary cases during last year.
The district had registered the highest sales in liquor through the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), thanks to the strict prohibition enforcement measures by the district police.

The district had retained the first position in liquor sales in the State.
The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of the district police detained 11 bootleggers under Goondas Act for distilling and smuggling arrack. Prohibition raids and vehicular checking had been intensified on the network of National Highways and State Highways to combat the smuggling and sale of arrack; spurious liquor and rectified spirit from Karnataka into Krishnagiri district.
Vehicular checking had also been tightened at all check posts especially those located at Interstate borders including Kumlapuram, Jujuvadi, Kakkanur (Sarjapur-Bangalore NH), Berigai, Veppanapalli, Neralagiri (AP border), Kuruvinayanapalli, Varatanapalli and Anginayanapalli to prevent the smuggling of contraband into the district, the SP said.
The PEW police registered a total of 6,562 cases during the previous year.
The traffic police registered cases against 19,826 persons for various traffic violations.
Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Kumar was present.
