CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has launched two new schemes to provide complete sets of textbooks and bicycles to girl students belonging to Scheduled Castes in the government colleges, Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta said here on Friday. He disclosed that Rs. 2 crore had been earmarked for providing books to 8,909 SC girl students under the scheme. He said 4,287 SC girl students would be provided free bicycles and Rs. 75 lakhs had been earmarked for this purpose. To empower the female students and to create awakening among them, women’s cells had been established in all the government colleges in the State. These cells would organise various activities to apprise the students of gender-related issues, he added.
