March to Port Trust planned

KOCHI: Trade Union Co-ordination Committee will stage a march to Cochin Port Trust on January 14 demanding steps to improve the movement of containers operating from the port.

Committee representatives said here on Friday that workers in the container sector had been facing several labour problems.

The wages given to the container workers were also low, they said.

They urged the authorities to initiate steps to implement salary and other benefits to eligible workers, as per the norms. Other demands are fair wages and welfare fund for workers and pre-paid system to check unhealthy competition in the movement of containers operating from the port.
