Staff Reporter

They were constructed as part of Maharashtra’s tsunami rehabilitation project

PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh will dedicate 300 houses constructed at Veerampattinam to fishermen on Saturday.

He would also dedicate 120 houses in Karaikalmedu and 80 houses in Kilinjalmedu in Karaikal region on the same day.

Collector G. Theva Neethi Dhas said in a release here on Friday that the houses had been constructed as part of the Maharashtra government’s tsunami rehabilitation project undertaken in the Union Territory.

The Maharashtra government had promised to construct around 2,000 houses for the fishermen living in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. A total of 1,063 houses were in advanced stage of completion and the remaining would be taken up for construction shortly, he said.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Maharashtra Minister for Co-operation, Relief and Rehabilitation, Patangarao Kadam, would participate in the function.
