“Schemes will on remain on paper and never take off” 364 Delhi villages still like slums with no basic amenities NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Friday cautioned people against the announcements being made by the Delhi Government regarding development works to be undertaken in the Capital’s villages, saying they were only being made keeping the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in mind. Dr. Vardhan charged that after neglecting Delhi’s villages for nine years, the State Government was now making announcements to woo the people. He said while Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan had announced 527 schemes for villages worth Rs.224 crore on Thursday, the fact was that these schemes would remain only on paper and would not take off as the Delhi Government was not serious about implementing them. The BJP leader charged that the 364 villages of Delhi were just like slums and bereft of basic amenities. He said there was an acute problem of power, water, roads, sewer, public toilets, schools and health centres in these villages and yet the Delhi Government had not done anything for the rural population. ``The main demand of the villages has been that in view of the increasing population the Lal Dora area should be extended. But instead of doing so the Congress Government has been demolishing houses constructed outside the Lal Dora area,” he said.
