ALAPPUZHA: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has clarified that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthana ndan was absent from the inaugural of the party’s district conference due to “official preoccupation”. Mr. Vijayan said the Chief Minister had to attend two functions apart from a Cabinet meeting scheduled at 4 p.m. on Friday. “The Chief Minister had informed me on Thursday itself that he would not be able to make it to the district conference due to these official preoccupation and asked me to inaugurate the conference,” Mr. Vijayan said, adding that there was no need for any other speculations. Mr. Achuthanandan, who was slated to inaugurate the three-day meet in his home district, was also designated to inaugurate a public meeting on the last day of the conference on Sunday.
