Mistaken identity?

BANGALORE: The acid attack on Neelusha Gupte on Sunday at HSR Layout was, perhaps, a case of mistaken identity, the police suspect. The absence of any clues has made it difficult to track down the attackers, a senior police officer told The Hindu. Ms. Gupte was on a motorcycle with her husband, Karthik Sreenivasan, when a motorcyclist threw acid on them. She suffered burns on the back and was rushed to a hospital where she was discharged after treatment. Contrary to reports in a section of the media that Ms. Gupte was a daughter of an IAS officer and was travelling with her boyfriend, the police, on Thursday, said that Ms. Gupte was the daughter of an accountant-father and railway employee-mother and had been recently married to Mr. Sreenivasan. Both were residents of Babuspalya in Banaswadi. — Special Correspondent
