Datta Peetha: hearing adjourned
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has adjourned hearing on appeals by the Government and others against an order of a single judge on the Shree Guru Datta Peetha shrine at Baba Budan Giri in Chikmagalur district.
The State and others had appealed against the single judge order of February 14, 2007 directing the Commissioner of Religious and Charitable Endowments to hear representations by the Datta Peetha Samvardhana Trust and others before passing orders on the religious rites and rituals being followed at the shrine.
The single judge had remitted the matters back to the Commissioner.
The State and others had appealed against this order.
The State had sought a stay of the single judge order and also filed an interlocutory application in this regard.
When the matter came up before a Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice B.S. Patil, the trust urged the court to vacate the stay.
The Bench orally asked the trust advocate to file an application for vacating the stay order and adjourned further hearing in the matter.
