Clear stand on Telangana: Venkaiah

HYDERABAD: Accusing the Congress of trying to “betray” people of Telangana in the name of second States Reorganisation Commission, the Bharatiya Janata Party has asked the Congress high command to clarify its stand on formation of separate Telangana State.

Although the Congress is trying to dodge the separate statehood issue, it can drag it only till the next elections, as the formation of Telangana State is inevitable.

“It is for the Congress to decide whether it will give separate Telangana or wants the BJP to take credit for it,” senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu said at a press conference on Friday.

‘Heavy price’

He said the Congress would have to pay a “heavy price” if it delayed the decision on Telangana.

Posing a series of questions to the Congress, he wanted to know why it entered into an alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti when it was firm on the SRC.

Even if the proposed SRC submitted its report within a time-frame, there was no guarantee that the Union Cabinet would accept its recommendations.

Loss of credibility

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said the Congress’ latest announcement on the SRC after remaining silent for more than three-and-a-half years exposed the party’s lack of credibility which was evident from the results of elections in five States where it lost.
