CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority communities to enable them to pursue higher education from Class XI up to Ph.D. and technical or vocational courses of Class XI and XII for enhancing their employability. Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kartar Devi said here on Friday that these scholarships would be given to students belonging to minority communities studying in government, recognized private schools, colleges and institutes. She said students who have secured not less than 50 per cent marks in the previous final examination would be eligible for the scholarship while the students from Below Poverty Line families, having the lowest income, would be given preference in the ascending order. CriteriaA scholarship holder under this scheme would not avail of any other scholarship or stipend for pursuing the same course, she added. To avail of the benefit of this scheme, the annual income, from all sources, of the student’s parents or guardian should not exceed Rs.2 lakh, the Minister said, adding that 30 per cent of the scholarships would be earmarked for girl students.
